WAGES ON RELIEF 1 WORKS REDUCED^ i The Ashburton Unemployments Committee and local bodies have* been advised by the Unemployment, Commissioner (Mr Malcolm Fraser)* that the Government has decided* that on and after to-morrow the rate 1 of pay on Government relief works shall be 12s 6d per day for married* men and 9s for single men. On an« hourly basis the wage would be lsl 6fd and Is lid respectively. Previ-t ously the wage was 14s per day. Thd office for registration of the, unemployed was changed from the Courthouse to the Post Office on Saturday. Mr A. C. Williams (represen-* tative of the Labour Department); stated that he had handed over 350' names to the postal authorities. ’ Autogiro’s Flight. The autogiro, which left Dunedin at--10.30 a.m. yesterday, reached the Ash-, burton airport about 6.20 p.m. in semidarkness. Stops had been made at Oamaru and Timaru. The autogiro was piloted by Mr R. Mathieson, who had as a passenger Mr M’Cale. They left Timaru at 5.15, and experienced heavy rain and head winds. Five Degrees of Frost Recorded. A frost of five degrees was recorded in Ashburton yesterday morning. This was followed by bright sunshine until late in the afternoon, when light showers of rain set in. Death From Injuries. Trevor Henry Amos, aged eighteen, a son of Mr and Mrs F. E. Amos, of Peter Street, who was admitted to the hospital on Friday night suffering from concussion as the result of a fall from a bicycle, died at ten o’clock on Sunday night. It is not known how the accident occurred. Anzac Day Services. Arrangements for the Anzac Day services were made at a meeting of the Ashburton Ministers’ Association yesterday. These will be the same as last year, with the exception of the parts to be taken by the various ministers. The Rev E. W. Batts will preside at the service in the Domain, and the principal speaker will be the Rev H. G. Gilbert, of St Andrew’s Church, Hamilton. Prayers will be offered by the Rev A. G. Irvine. The Rev W. Grigg will have charge of the service at the cemetery, the Revs A. Petrie and G. D. Verco will conduct the ceremony at the laying of the wreaths In Baring Square, and the Rev C. W. Haskell will preside at the service at the Hampstead Memorial Hall. Borough Electors’ Roll. The borough electors' main roll for the election in May shows an increase of 205 names. The roll comprises a total of 2459. The supplementary roll will not close until April 8, at 5 p.m. Personal. The Rev G. D. Vercoe, of the Church of Christ, leaves Ashburton to-day for Nelson, to attend the annual Church of Christ conference.
