AUCKLAND PROFESSOR’S STATEMENT RESENTED.
ONE FORESTRY SCHOOL WILL EFFECT SAVING. Resentment of tile statement issued by- Professor W. Anderson, chairman of the Professorial Board of the. Auckland University College, in connection with the establishment of the Dominion School of Forestry at , Canterbury College, was voiced by the Canterbury College Board of Governors yesterday afternoon. The statement was declared incorrect, while the charge of distinct betrayal of the confidence of Auckland College” was said to be without any foundation whatever. The chairman (the Hon G. J. Smith) ; said that it was a matter of regret that the question was still being discussed in .the newspapers. The question of the amalgamation of the staffs of the two colleges was never mentioned or con-' sidered by the Canterbury Board. "If the amalgamation of the staffs ..was-in the minds of the-Auckland Col-
lege, why was it not mentioned at the first conference with the Minister for Education, and only casually mentioned at the last conference, at which Professor Hunter presided? One of the objects of the establishment of a Dominion school was the saving of expense of two staffs, so that more money should be available for research work. Had the two staffs been continued, how could, any saving, have been effected? Dr 11. G. Denham said that the appointment of Professor Corbin to the staff of the School of Forestry at Canterbury College would mean dispensing with the services of one whose work at the college had given entire satisfaction. A motion expressing resentment of the statement of Professor Anderson was carried unanimously.
