HUGE CROWD PACKED THE COLOMBES STADIUM
(Received March 16. 10.55 a.m.) PARIS, March 15. Forty thousand Germans and Frenchmen packed the Colombes Stadium to witness the France v. Germany Soccer international. It was the first match between these countries for thirty-three years. Thousands were turned away. Aeroplanes reporting where the crowds were thickest enabled the traffic to be more easily controlled. Hundreds of mounted and foot police were on duty outside, but their task was light. There was no racial feeling apparent, confounding the pessimists who predicted rioting. The German flag, red, black and gold, mingled with the tricolour above the score board. The bands played the French and German anthems as the teams entered the field, the crowd standing bareheaded. France’s winning score was the result of the German right-half, while attempting to clear, kicking into his own goal.
