PROVIDING WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED.
MATTERS DISCUSSED BY CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE.
The Citizens’ Unemployment Committee met this morning: present— Messrs E. H. Andrews (chairman), R. T. Ecrovd, T. S. Barnett, G. Maginness, F. W. J. Belton. W. W. Scarff, G. Harper, R. T. Bailey and J. F. Eames, Mrs Annie I. Fraer and Mr P. R. Climie (honorary secretary). Messrs F. L. Hutchinson and W E. Leadley, members of the Unemployment Board, were also present. In connection with the proposal to form a road at Camp Bay, a letter was received from settlers of that locality stating that a chain road was already surveyed through Mr Gardner’s property, and ’there was no necessity to purchase land for the formation of the road.
It was decided that the matter should be taken up with the Mount Herbert County Council. The Unemployment Commissioner. Mr Malcolm Fraser, wrote in reply to the committee, stating that the validation of over-expenditure by local bodies in providing work under the board’s No. 5 scheme, was a matter for the Government, and the committee’s request had been referred to the Minister of Labour.
The Richmond Hill Golf Club made application for assistance in connection with the reconstruction of its golf course. The matter was referred to the Unemployment Board.
