The engagement is announced of Lily, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs G. W. Samms. of Woolston, to Cecil Clive, third son of Mr and Mrs C. T. Middleton, New Brighton.

Mr and Mrs R. Julian, of Otangiwai. are spending a holiday in Christchurch. Miss M’lnnes, Dunedin, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr and Mrs E. C. Coni, Wellington, are staying at Warners Hotel. Commander W. Lawdon and Mrs Lawdon, London, are guests at War ner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs W. T. Churchwood and Miss Churchwood, Marlborough, are guests at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs Harry Kent, Wellington, are staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs F. Hall-Jones and Miss Hall-Jones, Wellington, are guests at the Clarendon Hotel. Miss Molly Black, Winchester Street, has returned home from a visit to Mrs M. Burdon, “ Parkhurst,” Woodbury. After an extended tour of the West Coast, Miss Grace Burgess has returned to Christchurch. Mrs C. Hand-Newton and family, Bealey Avenue, are spending a holiday at Oxford. Dr and Mrs H. D. Broadhead and family, Cashmere Hills, have left Christchurch to spend a holiday at Timaru. Mr and Mrs J. Mawson Stewart, Hamilton Avenue, Fendalton, have returned home after spending the holidays at Governor’s Bay. Mrs Charles Ogilvie and family. Cashmere Hills, will leave to-morrow for Sumner to spend a few weeks’ holiday. Mrs Kenneth Robinson and her children, Fendalton, are amongst Christchurch visitors to Sumner for the holidays. Miss Carol West-Watson, who will leave shortly for England, is at present spending a short holiday at Porter’s Pass. Mr and Mrs Richard Wallwork, Gracefield Street, who have been spending a fortnight in Sumner, returned to Christchurch to-day. The Misses Boyd, Ambrose, and Walker (Rangiora), and Keir (Christchurch) have left on a holiday visit to the West Coast and Franz Josef Glacier Miss Joan Maling, Durham Street North, who has been the guest of Mrs Howard Tripp, Timaru, returned home to-day. Viscountess Craigavon has been addressing several Ulster audiences lately, and on several occasions has ! given an account of her tour of New Zealand. Miss Christobel Bowen, Holly Road, who has been the guest of Mrs W. H. lielmore (“ Koromiko,” Wai-iti Road, Timaru), left yesterday to stay with Mrs W. N. Bond (“ Dunrobin,” Southland). The marriage of Miss Kathleen Blundell Price, only daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. Price, of Wellington, formerly of Fendalton, Christchurch, and Mr Webb Reid, of India, was celebrated to-day at Hubli, India. Visitors for the holidays at Gainsborough House, Governor’s Bay, were: Mr and Mrs E. Velven (Redcliffs), Mr and Mrs and Miss E. Oates (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs and Master Alpfield (Sydenham), Mr and Mrs, Miss M. and Master J. Butlar (Addington), Mr and Mrs and Misses Rimmer (2) (St Albans), and Miss Seymour (St Albans).
