ROSS BEATS M’CULLOUGH. m The Canterbury Croquet Championships were concluded at the United Club’s greens yesterday .n perfect weather. A. G. F. Ross and S. M’Cullough fought out the final of the men’s championship. M’Cullough won the toss and elected to go first. He made 2 hoops for his yellow, but failed at the third, letting Ross in. Ross made a break of 9 with the black, cross wiring at the first loop. He then attempted a triple peel and finish, but failed at 4 back after having pfeeled black through three hoops. M’Cullough failed to take advantage of this lapse, and Ross finished shortly after. In the second game neither player did himself justice. After some in and out play M’Cullougli took control of the game, and advanced his clips to 4 back and JCo. 4 respectively. Ross then got in and went to 4 hack with his blue, but fail id in an attempt to triple peel in the second break. Later Ross cannoned onfe of his balls through the penultimate hoop. M’Cullougli then hit in. but did not make any progress, and Ross finished shortly after. At the conclusion of the play, Mr A. G. F. Ross presented the cups and trophies won. He spoke of the many Hose games which the tournament had produced. He thanked the United Club for the use of lhei»* lawns, and the various clubs for supplying equipment. Mrs Maddren beat Mrs Palmer 26-24. Canterbury Handicap. Final. * Mrs Tyers beat Mrs Maddren 26-19. Consolation Match. Semi-final. Tomlinson beat Mrs M’Cullough 24-17. Mrs Scandrett beat Mrs Freeman 26-20. Final. Mrs Scandrett beat Mrs Tomlinson, -*6-17.
