LATE PAYERS FINED ON UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY.
About a dozen people who had registered the Unemployment Act went to the Post Office to-day to pay their levies. All were fined the sixpence which the Act stipulates. Registrations for the City of Christchurch total 28,000 l and 24,000 payments have been received. The four thousand outstanding may probably be accounted for byexemptions. A city business man who went in with his payment this morning was very annoyed about the fine imposed. “It took a lot of argument to get it out of him,” said a Post Office official.
