MINE ROOF CAVING IN KILLED WORKER.
INJURED COMPANION HAS DIFFICULT JOURNEY. Per Press A ss^ciation. GREYMOUTH, November 27. The caving in of a section of the roof in the Paparoa mine at 3.15 p.m. today buried two miners, Edward Thomas Kirwan, aged twenty-seven, a native of Reefton, and William O’Grady, who were working in the place by themselves. Seventeen feet of roof collapsed. Kirwan was killed instantaneously, a piece of timber having fractured his skull and broken his neck. O’Grady was extricated suffering from spinal and leg injuries, and after an extremely difficult journey down to level country, during which the stretcher bearers had to negotiate a slip, the injured man was conveyed to the Grey Hospital. lie is expected to recover
