TRAFFIC CASES DEALT WITH BY MAGISTRATE.

Traffic and by-law cases were dealt with by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. For cycling at night without lights the following were fined, with costs: — Francis Charles Alderton 10s, Clifford Brain 10s, Edward Charles Griebel 10s, Kenneth V. Hewinson 10s, Walter George B. Turner 10s, George Templeton ss, and Annie O’Neill 5s (without costs). Templeton was also fined 5s without for having no red reflector on his cycle. Fines, with costs, were imposed as follow for cycling on the footpath:— Colin Ellison 10s, Bernard Nottingham 10s, James Thompson 10s. For having no number plate on his machine, Thomas Henry Carter was fined 5s and costs, and 10s and costs for having no license. Llewellyn Evans was fined 10s and costs for having an unlicensed motorcycle. The following were fined, with costs, on account of their cars having no lights:—Henry Howard Gibson 10s, Linton Harker ss. For having no lights on their motor-cycles, Alfred Lumb was fined ss, Malcolm Albert M’Donald 10s, and Phillip WynneYorke 10s. For parking motor-cars without lights, Launcelot Alfred Marriott was fined 10s and costs, Frederick James Marsh ss, Margaret F. Middleton 10s, Charles Patrick Todd 10s. Cecil William Rudkin was fined 20s and costs for driving past a standing tram. Leonard Morris was fined ss, without costs, for riding a motor-cycle without a license. A charge against Robert M’Stay of failing to give way to traffic on his right at the intersection of Bealey Avenue and Papanui Road, was dismissed. The Magistrate stated that the motor-cvclist, with whom defendant had collided, had been travelling too fast. . A charge against Marjorie O Malley, of cutting the corner at the intersection of Kilmore and Barbadoes Streets, was dismissed. The charge arose out of a collision with a motor-cycle. Failed to Give Way. George William Crawford was fined £2 arid costs for failing to give way to traffic at a Hornby intersection. The police statecj that defendant, who was driving a lorry, collided with a motorcycle. There was a high paling fence on one side of the intersection. Mr Tracy, who appeared for defendant, stated that his client had had his vision obscured by the paling fence, and had not appreciated the speed at which the motor-cyclist was travelling. Knocked Cyclist Down. Thomas Wildon Lynch was fined 10s and costs for negligently . driving a motor-car in Hereford Street. Sub-Inspector O’Hara stated that defendant was driving his car from Colombo Street into Hereford Street. He was driving slowly at the time but knocked down a cyclist. Dangerous Driving. Keith Shaw Mangin was fined £4 and costs for driving a motor-car along Ferry Road in a manner dangerous to the public. Evidence went to show that defendant had travelled over the intersection of Ferry Road and Barbadoes Street at about forty-five miles an hour. Collided with Post. Evidence was given that Kate Younger, driving a motor-car without a license, had failed to give way to traffic on her right at the intersection of Durham Street and Moorhouse Avenue, and, in swerving to avoid an accident, had suffered shock in a collision with the post on the north-west corner. Defendant was fined £3 and costs for failing to give way to traffic, and 10s and costs for having no license.
