HOPES UNEMPLOYMENT WILL CEASE TO EXIST
HRST BOArI/mEETING HELD IN WELLINGTON. I Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 25. Presiding over the first meeting of the Unemployment Board, the Hon S. G. Smith stressed the need for team work. He congratulated members other than the Government nominees upon having been selected by the people they represented. It was gratifying to the Government that the board met with almost universal acceptance. He wished to make it quite clear that there would be no Government control of the board, only the greatest possible assistance. Mr Smith added that he hoped that the board would eventually do away with the need for the Act and that industries would be stimulated and unemployment abolished. It was announced at the meeting that Mr Malcolm Fraser, Government Statistician, would act as chief executive officer.
