AREA WANTED FOR SEED CERTIFYING

FINANCE PREVENTS USE OF LINCOLN COLLEGE A proposal that the Department of Agriculture should use a portion of the Lincoln College farm for seed certification work cannot yet be put into effect owing to the necessity for the erection of buildings, according to Dr C. J. Reakes, Director-General of Agriculture. Dr Reakes stated to-day that the Department required the use of land for seed certification work, and had discussed with the Lincoln College authorities the question of using an area on the College farm. The College was willing to meet the Department in the matter. Seed certification would still be carried on at Ashburton, but it was hoped that circumstances would soon permit of co-operation between the Department and the College. The idea considered by the Department was to erect its own buildings at Lincoln.
