(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, July 29. After a very tame beginning to the week, business on a restricted scale has been done during the past twentyfour hours, but with no improvement in the market tone and most buying offers are based on hopes of lower values. At this morning’s call, Bank of New Zealands were offered 3d cheaper at £2 16s. Auckland Gas w r ere quoted, ex div, with buyers at £1 4s, and sellers £1 5s 6d. Gisborne Gas were offered at 14s, and Thames Gas at Bs. Pukemiro Collieries were a shade weaker, with sellers at £3 4s. In Government stocks a parcel of

5J per cent 1033 was offered at £9O 12s 6d, and one of the 1036 issue at 6s less. At the noon call there was rather more bidding, but the only business finalised was a sale of Bank of New Zealands and one of Harbour Board debentures. This latter was made at a reduction of £1 10s, compared with the last sale on June 19, and considered with recent quotations, seems to indicate a weakness in local body debentures. Pukemiros eased further, with sellers at £3 3s. A parcel of 45 per cent War Loan (1938) was offered at par, and one of 55 per cent (1933) inscribed at £99 10s.
