WAIMAIRI SOCIAL. The usual fortnightly social of the Waimairi School Committee was held last Saturday. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Bryant and Miss Bryant. Other prizes were won by Mesdames Roberts, Kelly, Knight and Mr Syme. Mr C. Claridge was M.G. and Mr N. Johnston played the extra. A HAREWOOD PARK. At Wednesday night’s meeting of the Waimairi Council, Mr C. E. Moore, member for the Harewood Riding, was asked to contribute one-third towards the grant towards the Papanui Domain. Mr Moore said he could not see his way to do this. The Harewood Riding did not reach nearer the Domain than Bishop’s Road, and in addition, he had been warned that he would be called on to get a grant for a Harewood Park. It appears that following a letter that was published in the “Papanui Paragraphs” the matter of a park for 'Harewood was discussed at a public meeting, but nothing further has been done. MOTHERS’ UNIONS. On Wednesday St Silas’s Mothers’ Union entertained the Belfast and St Paul's Mothers' Unions. Mrs Watkins gave a most instructive talk on “Home Nursing.” PROGRESS LEAGUE SOCIAL. The Progress League’s social was well attended. Mr Blumsky, in the absence of Mr Holmes, acted as M.C. Violin solos were given by Mrs Owers, pianoforte items by Mrs S. H. Cox and Miss Cox, and songs by Miss Cook The music for the dancing was played by Mr Fred Comyns and the accompaniments by Mrs Cox and Miss Thomas. SCOUT MEETING. A meeting of the Papanui Boy Scouts’ Committee was held on Thurs day. Mr W. M’Donald was appointed chairman, and Mr W. Moffatt agreed to take over the secretarial work. There were also present Mesdames 11. R. Smith, MoiTatt, Morrison. Tomkies, Watson, Brown and Tillman It was decided t q hold a jumble saleearly in July. Mrs Smith, who had undertaken the training of the ' boys : in singing, reported good progress. PAPANUI DOMAIN. Mr Fred Sisson put up a good fight for a grant for the Papanui Domain on Wednesday night at the Waimairi Council meeting. He said that with the erection of a new pavilion he hoped the domain would become one of the picnic grounds of Canterbury. At the moment, however, they had no money and a fence and sewerage connection were needed. Mr Sisson pointed out that any grant made would carry a £ for £ subsidy from the Government.
