PROGRESS LEAGUE HAS EXECUTIVE MEETING
The executive of the Canterbury Progress League met last evening, Mr G. M. Hall presiding over a good attendance of members. The honorary treasurer (Mr C. H. Clibborn) reported that the No. 1 account had a credit balance of £236 Is, the No. 2 account £BB 9s lid, and that the general reserve account stood at £223 9s 4d. On behalf of the Railways and Transport Committee, Mr M. W. Stevenson reported on the conference which the committee recently held with Mr F. Pawson, railway business agent for Canterbury. The matters dealt with at the conference were:—Special back loading rate to the West Coast, improvement to the passenger service on the midland line, and the proposed "Goodwill Tour” of the South Island to be carried out under the auspices of the league. (A report of the proceedings of the conference was published in the “Times” last week. The reports were adopted. Mr Clibborn presented a report on the conference of South Island Progress Leagues held recently at Nelson. After a discussion in committee it was reported that Messrs Hall, Stevenson and C. H. Burson had been appointed to represent the league at a conference called by the Chamber of Commerce to discuss railway facilities at Christchurch and Lyttelton.
