It is reported that those farmers who sold baconers in the second half of the fat pig sale at the Addington stock market yesterday benefited by an unexpected occurrence. Over the first part of the sale baconers were easier in price than was the case at the previous market, two bu}*ers, it is stated, taking the lots more or less turn about. Another buyer entered into the sale, and it was not long before competition became keen, with the result that baconers suddenly improved in price by from £1 to 25s a head until the end of the sale.

Arising out of a letter from the Marl--1 borough Progress League regarding the construction of the South Island Main Trunk railway line, the executive of the Canterbury Progress League, at its meeting last night decided, on the recommendation of the standing committee, that periodical visits of inspection should be made to the Parnassus end of the line, and to ask the Marlborough League to carry out similar inspections at the Wharanui end. It was also decided to act in conjunction with the Marlborough League in arranging a conference at Parnassus for the purpose of reviewing the whole position.
