A VISIT TO TRENTHAM PAID BY MINISTERS.
(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, April 3. In view of the Government’s intention to reduce land defence expenditure, significance attaches to the visit paid to Trentham camp yesterday by the Minister of Defence (the Hon J. G. Cob be) and the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon P. A. de la Perrelle). The Ministers thoroughly inspected the equipment, accoutrements and hutments at Trentham, but when approached they had no comment to make on their observations. Questions have lately arisen as to what fate the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (New' Zealand Division) will suffer in the revision of the general defence policy. It is understood that, although a slight modification is con templated regarding naval defence expenditure, there is no intention at present to interfere with the system of volunteer naval training now in force.
