LABOUR NOMINEES FOR PARLIAMENT.
CANDIDATES FOR THE CHRISTCHURCH SEATS
Nominations for the Labour Party’s selection ballots for candidates for the Parliamentary seats in the Christchurch area will close with the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee to-night. A meeting of the comfnittee will be held to-night, when it is probable that the preliminary steps in connection with the holding of ballots where they are necessary will be taken.
The first action to be taken will be to ascertain if those nominated are willing to be candidates for selection. When this has been done it will be necessary for each candidate to be nominated in writing by six electors of the district for which he or she is proposed. The four sitting Labour members are likely to be selected again without opposition, but ballots for Christchurch North, Riccarton and Kaiapoi will be necessary. No nominations have been made for Hurunui or Mid-Canter-bury electorates, as they come under the jurisdiction of the National Office of the Labour Party. The following are the nominations already received: Christchurch North—Rev J. K. Archer and Mrs E. R. M’Combs. Christchurch East—H. T. Armstrong, M.P. Christchurch South—E. J. Howard, M.P. Avon—D. G. Sullivan, M.P. Lyttelton—J. M’Combs, M.P. Riccarton—Messrs P. C. Webb, Winter Cole and IT. Hunter. Kaiapoi—Mrs E. R. M’Combs, Rev J. K. Archer and Messrs H. C. Revell, F. R. Cooke and R. M. Macfarlane.
