RANGIORA NEWS.

BOROUGH EXPERIENCES HIGH WIND AND RAIN. A nor’-wester of almost gale force blew in North Canterbury for several hours on Saturday, the wind being at its worst about mid afternoon. Towards evening it died down, and early yesterday morning a sou’-wester came up bringing a heavy fall of rain which, however, did not last long. When the clouds lifted the mountain tops were seen to be coated with snow. A cold south-west wind prevailed all day yesterday, but the sun shone brightly for an hour or two in the afternoon. The high wind on Saturday stopped the haymaking, but the crops suffered very little damage beyond overturned stooks in the oat fields. Some difficulty has been met with in harvesting the oats owing to crops being laid by the heavy rain. A good deal of what little fruit was left by the frost was stripped off by the wind, and here and there branches were ripped off trees. BOY SCOUTS CAMP. The Rangiora troop of Boy Scouts went into camp for a few days at Coldstream on Saturday in charge of Scoutmasters G. Ridout and H. Johnstone. The camp is pitched under the willows on the south bank of the Ash ley. the spot being specially well adapted for the purpose, there being plenty of shelter, wood in abundance for camp fires, and the river for bathing. The boys are looking forward to spending an enjoyable time. BOWLING TOURNAMENT. On the Rangiora bowling green on Saturday afternoon twenty-four players took part in a progressive doubles tournament for prizes given by Mr James Judson. The boisterous nor’-wes-ter was the cause of a good deal of erratic play, an unusual number of bowls finding a place on the bank. AfteT playing off some ties W. A. Banks won the skips’ first prize, and W. Horrell the second, while the first and second leads’ prizes went to F. L. Benjes and , A. J. Ferguson respectively. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs J. B. Grant, of Karon. Wellington, are visiting Mr and Mrs A. J. Ferguson, Woodend Road.
