OBITUARY.

MRS WILLIAM WILSON. The death occurred on Sunday, at Gloucester Street, Avonside, of Mrs William Wilson. Mrs Wilson had only recently returned to Christchurch after an extended tour of the Old Country, and the news of her sudden death came as a great shock to a very large circle of friends and acquaintances. The late Mrs Wilson was one of the best-known figures in the women’s movement and in musical circles. She was the wife of Mr William Wilson, who was at one time the head master of the Normal School. She was born in London, where she received her education. She was keenly intellectual, and left her impress on many of the girls of the city during the years when she conducted a private school in Cranmer Square. Under her guidance many careers were begun in the University world. A vice-president of the old-time Musical Union, Mrs Wilson was all her life interested in musical affairs. She was a foundation member of the Canterbury Women’s Club. She was president of the Music Circle, and conducted a women’s choir. She was also for many years an active member of the Navy League. She leaves a husband, Mr William Wilson# and a son, Mr William Wilson, head of the welfare department of Vickers, Ltd.,- a brilliant electrician, and editor of one of the most important electrical journals in England. Her only daughter, Grace, died several years ago, after a brilliant career at Canterbury College. Her kindly disposition and thought for others made for the late Mrs Wilson many friends, who will mourn her death.
