BOWLING.

PENNANT COMPETITIONS. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. Play in the Christchurch Bowling Centre's Manning Cup pennant competition on Saturday afternoon was restricted to a few matches which could not be played on November 10 owing to rain. The following are the results— SECTION A.

TOURNAMENTS AND TEST MATCHES. Boxing Day will see the commencement in Wellington of a bowling carnival that will extend well into January, when the test games with Australia will be of absorbing interest to bowlers. Beginning with the Centre tournament, interest will be intense in the Australian test games, and the tournament which will follow the latter should see a remarkably large gathering of bowlers. Doubtless many will be away from Wellington holiday-making, and it is a fact that entries do not reach' the anticipated number by ten rinks, but the number of Australian visitors is most gratifying. They are sending sixteen rinks, and the men from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are players of high calibre, who will take some beating. The Australian visitors are due to arrive on January 2, and they will be

given a civic reception at 11 a.m. on the following day, afterwards being entertained at lunch by the Hataital Club. On thp two succeeding afternoons the visitors will be entertained on the Thorndon and Wellington greens. On Sunday they will leave on a motor drive and a picnic to Otaki, and will be given a Maori welcome at luncheon on the racecourse. Afterwards they will be shown historic spots. A garden party will be held at Trentham on the following Sunday. A korere will be held on Saturday evening, January 12, at the Masonic Hall on the Terrace. Australian Bowling Council representatives have been asked to attend the meeting of the Dominion Bowling Council on January 9, when decisions will be arrived at regarding the conduct of the test matches.
