TAKE YOUR HAT OFF
Perhaps the most common offence committed in the hallowed and sombre precincts of the Magistrate's Court is that committed by the ignorant male who, with no knowledge of Court procedure, walks into the Courtroom with his head firmly encased in his hat. Diversion, and sometimes humour, is often caused by the verbal, combats which ensue between the offender and the Court Orderly. An unusual case occurred in Court this morning. A defendant in a bylaw case was leaving the Court with his hat on his head. The Court Orderly’s rebuke came just as the defendant was passing through the door, and for once it seemed that victory would not lie with the official. The situation was saved, however, by a quick-witted constable who grabbed the offending headgear just as the offender was making his exit.
