SCOTTISH CATECHISM AND PORRIDGE MAKE FOR A FINE SPIRIT.
“It is one of the most difficult things in Ihe world to frame a Catechism for. children," said a speaker at the Baptist Union conference yesterday, when the discussion of a suitable catechism was in progress. When he lived on the borders of Scotland he used to hear something which, interpreted, meant, “If you wane to make your son a man you must bring him up on porridge and the Catechism,” was the statement of the Rev F. E. Harry. This, he said, accounted for the fine Scottish spirit. Another opinion was put. forward that the Bible was the best Catechism. The Rev C. W. Duncumb advocated something simple. On the motion of Dr North, seconded by Mr Chant, it was resolved that the conference reaffirm the desirability of a Catechism for young people.
