(Special to the “Star.") WELLINGTON, September 25. Petitions. “In the opinion of the committee the petition should be referred to the Government for serious consideration/’ reported the Education Committee on the petition of V. J. Gamble, of Christchurch, and 456 others, praying that they should be allowed to join the teachers 'superannuation fund and all back services to count. The Railways Committee recom mended favourable consideration by the Government of the petition of Mrs Mary Lowden, of 73, Burke Street, Spreydon, praying for compassionate allowance on account of her late husband’s services as railway workshops manager at Addington. G. W. Forsyth, of Christchurch, petitioned that he be found permanent employment in the Government service owing to permanent injuries received while he waj in the employ of tho Railway Department. The Railways Committee recommended that the Government should give this petition favourable consideration. The Education Committee made no recommendation on the petition of Mrs Emma Todd, of Coutts Island (asking for a teacher’s certificate or compensation), and Jessie Macintosh, of Lyttelton (asking that back service should count for superannuation). The Lands Committee returned no recommendation on the petition of S. 11. Nunn, of Christchurch, asking for compensation on account of alleged wrongful prosecution by the Crown Lands Commissioner, Christchurch. Dams in Avon. The Christchurch District Drainage Act Amendment Bill having undergone amendment by the Local Bills Committee, as already indicated, has been considered by the Lands Committee, which has modified the clause empowering the board to charge fees for opening and closing of or haulage over dams, by making the charges subject to the approval of the Minister of Marine. Engineers’ Registration. The Lands Committee has reported on the Engineers Registration Amendment Bill. It has made an amendment to empower registration of persons who five years prior to the passing of the 1924 Act had been engaged in the acquisition of professional knowledge to the satisfaction of the Registration Board, or. being a licensed surveyor, shall satisfy the board that prior to the operation of the 1924 Act, he had practical experience in engineering as part of his practice. These applicants must apply for registration within six months. Amateur Boxing. No recommendation was made by the M to Z Committee on the petition of E. L. Macassey and 197 others asking that amateur boxing be given statutory recognition, and for the amendment of the Police Offences Act in so far as it relates to amateur boxing.
