HELPERS ARE SENT TO FARMERS’ HOMES.

(Special to the "Star.”) WANGANUI, August 22.

The women's branch of the Farmers' L T nion, of which Airs ‘W. J. Poison ic the head, has, without seeking the light of much publicity, been doing a tremendous amount of very useful work in the Dominion in assisting in farmers’ homes in cases of sickness, etc.

During last year some 230 families were assisted and received visits from the organisation’s housekeepers. At present the organisation has twentytwo housekeepers, who go out on philanthropic missions at a moment’s notice. Nearly all these workers act in an honorary position, but Taumarunui, Hamilton, Invercargill and Gore have their own salaried housekeepers for their branches. The Taumarunui district has a splendid, record, for every farmer’s wife in the district has linked up with the organistion. At the present time the Wanganui branch has the honour of the largest membership, the aggregate being 300.
