THEATRE ROYAL IS MASS OF SCAFFOLDING.
CONSTRUCTION WORK PROCEEDING STEADILY. With the two main sixteen-ton beams in position in front of the circle and the gallery, steady progress is being made with the rebuilding of the inside of the Theatre Royal. The placing in position of these beams was a solid job, but now that they are set subsidiary work will proceed rapidly, and when the network is complete there will be a frame of over 100 tons of steel. The well-known “Midsummer Night's Dream” dome has been lowered from its usual position on to a scaffolding ready for dismantling. A new dome embodying modern features and design will take its place.
The contractors expect to have the main steelwork finished some time next week and in a fortnight the building will be ready for the carpenters. With the maintenance of the present steadv progress, it is expected that the building will be finished up to contract time.
