NO ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE AT THE PRESENT TIME.

MR M. E. LYONS AND THE LYTTELTON SEAT. “ I have no announcement to make at the present time.” said Mr M. E. Lyons when asked this morning if he was in a position to state whether he intended to be a candidate for the Lyttelton seat at the general election this year. Mr Lyons contested the seat in the Reform Party's interests at the general election in 1925, and after being returned was unseated on a recount and petition, and Mr J. M’Combs was declared elected. It was generally understood, until he was\recently appointed secretary of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. that Mr Lyons would again be a candidate for the Lyttelton seat. Since then, however. the Reform organisation in Christchurch has been on the look-out for another candidate, and Mr J. O. Coop, a well-known Little River farmer, has been mentioned as willing to enter the field. - The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association has not made it a condition of Mr Lyons’s appointment that he should not be a candidate for Parliament, but as that organisation represents different shades of political thought, it was regarded as unlikely

that Mr Lyons would be a candidate ■ for Parliamentary honours. Arrangements are in hand for a conference of delegates from all parts of the Lyttelton electorate to be held at an early date for the purpose of dis cussing the selection of the Reform candidate foj- the seat.
