WITNESSES SAY WARDERS STRUCK CAPTURED YOUTH.
INQUIRY MAY BE HELD, SAYS SUPERINTENDENT. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, April 30. Serious allegations have been made by eye-witnesses of the capture of the Borstal escapee, Thomas George Flanagan, eighteen, on Saturday. It is asserted that after searching him warders punched him about the head and body and knocked him down, the victim crying for mercy. Superintendent Pollock said that there would probably be a departmental inquiry. The youth had made no complaint of ill-treatment and the usual medical report showed that his health was good and that he was fit to appear in Court.
