MAORI DELAYED BY SOUTHERLY GALE.
Having been delayed on the voyage south from Wellington by strong southerly gales, accompanied by heavy seas, the ferry steamer Maori arrived at Lyttelton this morning two hours late. Inclement weather was experienced at Wellington yesterday. A southerly gale was blowing, accompanied by
Conditions did not improve last evening. and on the Maori reaching Pencarrow Heads she ran into the full force of a southerly gale. The passengers had an uncomfortable time. The vessel pitched heavily until passing the Kaikouras, where the conditions were slightly better. It was 8.45 a.m. before the vessel was tied up at Lyttelton. Heavy rain fell as the passengers disembarked, and there was a choppy sea running in the outer harbour.
