FREE KINDERGARTEN.
The monthly meeting of the Phillipstown Free Kindergarten Ladies’ Committee was held on Tuesday. Mrs T. E. Taylor presided. There were present— Mesdames Griffiths, Williams, Sullivan, Dunbier, Leaver, Arnold, Wyatt, Empson, Richards, Woodham, Misses Ryan and Thomas. Miss Suckling reported eighty-three children on the roll, highest attendance 77, lowest 14, average 67. Subscriptions for the month amounted to £4 3s 3d.
The visitors to the school this month were Mrs Dutton (principal of the Dunedin Kindergartens), Misses Lewis and Christie (of the Training College), and Mrs Williams, who kindly brought rusks and biscuits for the children. Thanks are due to Mr Cotter, who has mended tables, forms and chairs and has done much to help the school in various ways.
Thanks were extended to all who had helped in any way to make social functions a success during the year. The school closed with a Christmas party on December 13. The thanks of the committee were also extended to Mrs J. Moir (Christchurch), who presented plants of marigolds, and to Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P„ for the kindly interest he had shown in the school.
Mrs Woodham handed in £6, the proceeds from the euchro tournaments organised by the Parents’ Committee. Mrs Wyatt handed in £5 from the fancj>dress party, and Mrs Dunbier £l4 from the Dance Committee. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Dunbier and her assistants, Mesdames Griffiths, W3’-att, Arnold, Sullivan, Yates, Messrs Dunbier, Scott, Stevens, Hitchings, Ashton and Tipping for their work; to Stacey and Hawker for their presents of bread, to Mrs Woodham, Messrs Williams and Brewer for their work in connection with the euchre tournaments.
