DANCE RECITAL.

An exhibition of the good that may be done with a mixed dancing class under the guidance of a talented teacher, was given in the Caledonian Hall last evening, when a recital was given by the pupils of Miss Iris Edmonds. The hall was well filled with an appreciative audience, who were enthusiastic in their applause, and the proceeds are to be given to Nurse Maude’s Christmas fund. Apart from the dancing itself Miss Edmonds must be congratulated on the artistic manner in which the recital was arranged. The frocking was simple and effective. The costumes in colouring were most specticular. The following was the programme:— Overture, orchestra; acrobatic antics, H. Courtney and children; dance. “Skipping Rope,” Marjory Hewertson; song, “School day Sweethearts,” Jim Humphries, and babies; dance, “Peter Pan,” Daphne Buchanan; ballet.; “Rompers,” junior girls, soloists. He dreams:—lt is dawn and the woodland sprites are dancing; the woodland elves frighten them away then scamper off. A sprite sings and heralds the sunrise. The spirit of day finds the boy, and tells the Queen of the Woods, who comes and falls in love with him. They dance; the sprites return and all rejoice. Edmonds, and the stage manager was Mr W. J. M. Dickinson.
