AMATEUR TRIALS HELD LAST NIGHT AT QUEEN’S THEATRE

A large attendance at the. Queen’s Theatre last evening confirmed the verdict given last week as to tlie popularity of amateur trials. The standard attained last evening was much higher than was the case a week ago, and the task of the audience in picking the winners was correspondingly difficult. The programme which the trials provided was of a most divei’sified kind and was thoroughly enjoyed. As was the case last week the prizes were awarded by vote of the audience, win signified by applause at the conclusion of the trials their opinion of the merits of the respective performers. The honours were awarded as follows:-—Gentle-men, Woodward’s trio; children, Miss Jean Dickson; ladies, Miss X. Robertson. The Woodward Trio, a trio of instrumentalists, donated their prise to the unemployment fund.
