He first married Miss Ruth Wynne, a daughter of the former PostmasterGeneral of the United States, but this marriage was dissolved, and Smith then married his present wife, a wartime typist, whom he met in a lawyer’s office. Smith was found not guilty of the murder or manslaughter of John A. Derham, who was shot during a struggle for possession of, a revolver. Smith was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment for haying firearms in his possession with which to endanger his life.
