CANTERBURY WOMEN’S CLUB.
MUSICAL EVENING. Peonies and lupins in large bowls and crystal vases of exquisite roses decorated the Canterbury Women's Club last evening, when a delightful programme of music was enjoyed by a large number of members. The evening’s programme was arranged by Mrs William Wilson, and she is to be congratulated on her excellent organisation. Mrs 11. Holland, president, received the members, and as hostess for the evening, was assisted by the members of the committee. The following programme was given:—Pianoforte solo ‘‘Devotion” (Schumann-Liszt) Dr Crooks; song "Lend me Your Aid” (Gounod), Air W- J- Trewern; vocal duets “A Flight of Clouds” and “Nearest and Dearest” (Caracciolo), Alesdames Gower Burns and W. Wilson; instrumental quartette Allegro and Adagio (Rheinberger) Alesdames Roy Twyneham (violin), K. W. Robinson (viola), John Guthrie (’cello). J. E. Russell (piano) ; song “The Old, Old Story” (Blumenthal), Mrs William Wilson: song Aria, “ Azael” from opera “L’Enfant Prodigue,” Madame Gower Burns; song “Come Love, be Aline (Leoncavallo), Air W. J. Trewern; instrumental quartette Menuetto and Allegro (Rheinberger), Mesdames Roy Tywneham. Iv. W. Robinson, John Guthrie, J. E. Russell; song “Lovely Spring” (Coenen), Airs William Wilson; pianoforte solo “Pas des Amphores” and “Calirrhoe” (Chaminade), Dr Crooke; song Canzonetta from “Salvator Roza” (Gomez), Aladame Gower Burns; “ Rondo of Toy Symphony” (Gurlitt) and “Carnevals Alarsch (H. Aleyer), Club Toy Band and Instrumental Quartette. Conductor. Airs William Wilson.
During the. evening Airs Holland, on behalf of the “Alusical Circle” presented Madame Gower Burns with a beautiful bouquet of pink sweet peas. Supper was served after the programme of music, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Wilson, and the performers, for a most entertaining evening.
