MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr IT. A. Young, S.M.) REMANDED. James Henry Davey was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Eliza Jane Ritchie, New Brighton. on November 8, and stealing goods valued at £25 12s 6d. He was remanded till November 30. Reginald George Forman, 29 years of age, was charged with receiving goods from Davey, valued at £1 2s 6d, knowing that they had been stolen. He also was remanded till November 30. Bail was allowed, the accused in £25 and one surety of £25. SPENT STOLEN MONEY ON HOLIDAY. Kenneth Geary', alias Keith Geary, alias John Guy, was charged with stealing £24 belonging to A. V. Anson. He pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Gibson said that the prisoner had -worked for Mr Anson, and was given £24 to pay rent. He disappeared and was arrested in Timaru. He had been a civil servant in Wellington, and was charged with committing thefts there. Gearv, in reply to the Magistrate, said that he had spent all the stolen money, part of it on clothing, and part on a holiday on the West Coast. He now earned £5 a month and his keep. Mr Gibson said that the prisoner's people were in the Manawatu, but they never communicated with him. He was admitted to probation for two years and was ordered to refund the money. On a charge of having, as a civil servant, stolen postal notes valued at 6s, belonging to the Government, Geary was remanded to Wellington. CHARGED WITH INTERFERING WITH TELEPHONE. Sidney Stringer, 20 years of age, was charged with having wilfully interfered with the working of a public telephone at the corner of Cashel Street and Barbadoes Street on November 20. Senior-Sergeant „TI. Martin said that a -number of charges were pending. Stringer was remanded till November 24.
