£500,000 Radio Chain Is British Plan.

ENGLISH PROGRAMMES WILL BE HEARD THROUGHOUT WHOLE EMPIRE. Ey Telegraph. Press Assn.—Copyright.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. (Received November 20, 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, November 19. An Empire chain of super-broadcasting stations is at present occupying the attention of wireless experts and engineers. _ Though there is no official sanction at the moment, those m intimate touch with the position say that the scheme is likely to commend itself. The estimated cost is £500,000. The chain would consist of eight gigantic stations working with twice the power of Daventry, and would link up the Empire by means of a combination of wireless and land lines. British programmes could be broadcasted to India, South Africa, Canada and Australia. It is suggested that stations might be located at Monckton, Vancouver, Fanning Island, Sydney, Perth, Colombo, Bombay and Malta. Daventry could be the jumping off place for transmission from Britain. order that stations would receive the programmes at suitable times a twenty-four-hour service would be essential. There is also the Marconi suggestion that the beam system should supersede the existing methods. This would be more economical, rendering high power unnecessary.
