RICCARTON TRAFFIC.

To the Editor. Sir,—l’m afraid your correspondent of Saturday last, Mr Christensen, will not receive much sympathy because of his friend being pinched for riding on the footpath. The council has a greater duty to perform in protecting women and children from reckless riders on the footpath than in considering Mr Chistensen or his friends. The inspector is doing his work and the council should be complimented for appointing a man with backbone enough to stand up to the duties. However, there are several people in Riccarton wondering why he did not continue the good work of controlling traffic, which he started the first day of the races. The improvement on that day at Straven and Clarence Roads was most noticeable, as was the concision on the subsequent days when he was absent. One dav in particular the screeching of brakes and near shaves were nerve racking. Where were you. Mr Inspector? We would like you on the job.—Yours, etc., Q U E R Y.
