CANTERBURY CENTRE OF SWIMMING ASSOCIATION GRANTS CARNIVAL DATES

A meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association was held last night, Mr M. E. Lyons presiding over a full attendance. Referring to championship fixtures, the chairman said that there had been some misunderstanding regarding the position of the Leithfield Club. He took it that when the Leithfield Club made application they had in view the formation of a new club in Amberley, which was not yet formed, and therefore not affiliated. The Leithfield bath practically precluded the swimming of a championship, owing to the length of the bath, but the Amberley bath would bo ready for use in January. It was agreed that eliminating heats of the 50yds men’s championship, if necessary, be swum in Christchurch, and the final in the baths at Leithficld. The 220yds ladies’ championship was allocated to Leithfield, the conditions being the same. Both fixtures are sot down for February 5, 1027. The Christchurch Club was given permission to hold a carnival fixture on Fabruary 26, 1026. It was decided that the conditions for the intermediate girls bo the same as those of lady swimmers. The Christchurch Swimming Club applied for February 26, 3 927, for an inter-club .carnival, and also for the following races: 220yds men’s championship. 3 00yds boys’ intermediate championship, 50yds ladies’ championship. The application was granted. The secretary was instructed to write to the New Zealand Council asking that the affiliation fee of the Addington Club be remitted. Mr C. Atkinson was appointed handlcapper, with Mr V. Atkinson as assistant, Mr C. Atkinson stating that at various periods he would be out of Christchurch. The secretary of the council of the New Zealand Swirnming Association forwarded, a copy of correspondence regarding a carnival proposed to be held at Taumarunui, and suggesting that the Christchurch swimmers who will be in Auckland might break the journey on the way home to assist in the carnival. It was decided to give the request favourable consideration, and also to endeavour to arrange for Canterbury swimmers to be present at the Taumarunui carnival. Mr Lyons was appointed chief educational officer in the matter of swimhing, and it was decided to ask club secretaries to forward names of those willing to assist in the work.
