HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES APPROVED AT MEETING OF ATHLETIC CENTRE.

The executive of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last night; present—Messrs \V. C. Fie welly n (in the chair), C. S. M’Cully, J. K. Moloney, E. H. Cross. S. 11. Truman. E. C. Blanchard, S. O. Forrester. E. Todd, L. Smith, R Beattie and C. G. Lockwood (honorary secretary). The Wellington Centre wrote outlining its proposals regarding the visit of R. W. lamb, champion Australian amateur cyclist. The date of Lamb’s arrival was not clear. The fares via Sydney return would be about £4O, and this amount would be a charge on each centre pro rata, on the number of appearances. The Canterbury Centre would take him over from the wharf at Wellington, paying all expenses and retain all profits from any meeting held under its jurisdiction. If Otago were willing for his appearance there, they would take him over from the Christchurch Centre on the same terms. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman and Messrs Beattie, Lockwood and Blanchard was set up to complete the negotiations with the Wellington Centre and to endeavour to get Lamb to come to Christchurch as late as possible In February. Mr H. W. Nesbitt, manager of the English Park Stadium Co., Ltd., wrote stating that the company had decided to recognise the centre only,. as the controlling body of any sports termed as amateur events. The company applied fox* permission to hold the following events on Saturday night. November 27, at the Stadium:—loo yards handicap for runners, one mile handicap for cyclists. Mr Nesbitt attended the meeting and stated that it was the desire of the company to fall in with the wishes of tho centre. Permission to hold the two events on Saturday night was granted, and on the motion of Mr Moloney, seconded by Mr Cross, Mr Nesbitt was thanked for attendlnng the meeting and for the way he had met the centre’s wishes. The Halswell Club advised that the following events would be held at its afternoon sports meeting to be held on Saturday, December 11:—Cycling, halfmile (open handicap); mile, mile and a half (open handicap); running, 100yds open handicap, 880yds open handicap, schoolboys' race, novelty race. With regard to the running of several amateur events at the Waimate Caledonian Society’s sports to be held on Boxing Day, it was decided to waive the permit feo of £1 3s with a. view to encouraging the putting on of amateur events in the district. The Amberley Club was allotted the 75yds running championship and the mile and a half cycle championship for its meeting to be held on December 4. The Cheviot Amateur Sports Club’s programme for its annual sports meeting to be held on December IS was approved. The Springsion South Sports Gala Committee was granted affiliation and the programme for its sports to be held on New Year's Day was approved. The Nelson Y.M.C.A. Club forwarded applications for reinstatement to amateur status from Eric F. Skjellerup, Douglas A. Anderson, Harry s. Doidge and C. Teece. Skjellerup’s list of performances showed that he had won over £IOO as a professional and that he had competed in all parts of the Dominion. It was decided to forward Skjellerup’a application to the council without a recommendation, and to rocom* mend that the applications of Anderson, Doidge and Teece be granted. The Reinstatement Committee recommended that the following applications for reinstatement be forwarded to the council for approval:—Clarence Walter Bull (aged 17), William Hay Ferguson (aged 22) and Jack Clayton Gibbs (aged 20).
