CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr JI. A. Young, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Two first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s, in default twenj.yfour hours’ imprisonment. REMANDED. John Pengellv, aged thirty, was charged with having carnally known a mental defective. Pengelly was remanded to appear on Tuesday, and bail was allowed on his own recognisance of £SO. TRAFFIC BREACHES. For cycling on the footpath, George Adams, James Clark and Walter Sheasbv were each fined 20s. L. Neil was Convicted and discharged, and Lawrence Eastwick was fined 10s, O. J. Frater os and Arthur Thompson 10s. For cycling at night without lights the following penalties were imposed: —O. J. F'rater ss, Janies Hegan 20s, Phillip Munn costs, Alexander Skilling costs. The following penalties were inflicted upon motorists who left their cars unattended:—Vincent M. Beebe 20s. Forbes-Blackmore 20vS, British Traders’ Insurance, Ltd., 10s, Roland Bull 10s, Mildred A. Cooke 10s, Charles Cowper 20s, Guardian Insurance Company 10s, L. Meredith Kaye costs, F. A'. Middleton 20s. For driving unregistered motor vehicles Harold Ernest Anspack was fined 20s and Bonningtons, Ltd., were ordered to pay costs. For driving motor-cars while not holding a driver's license, Maurice Gold was fined £3 and W. 11. Jones 30s. For motoring at night without lights H. 11. Cook was ordered to pay costs, J. Lane was fined 10s, B. Perry 10s, Charles 11. Rich 10s, and E. Watkins 10s. Fof driving motors with number pla.tes - obscured, Percy Caithness, William M’Lennand and Herbert Simpson were each ordered to pay costs. For. driving, sheep during prohibited hours William Jack Bowes was fined 30s. F'or failing to stop when traffic was held up, A. G. Palmer was fined £5. For motoring without a rear light Ivy Robson was fined 10s. For driving over a railway crossing when the line was not clear, Frank Steans was ordered to pay costs. CHIMNEY FIRES. For allowing chimneys to catch fire Charles S. Clements, James Moffatt and Nathaniel Povnts were each fined 20s. BROKEN GLASS. William James Cowles, who threw glass on Belfast Road, was fined £3.

LYTTELTON. (Before Mr W. T. Lester, J.P.) THEFT CHARGES. Frederick Wells and Thomas Bates were charged with theft and were remanded to appear at Christchurch on Tuesday. Wells was charged with stealing two electric irons, valued at £2 10s, the property of the Union Company, and Bates was charged with stealing one woman’s costume, valued at £1 19s 6d. the property of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. Bail was refused in both cases. Detective Bickerdike stated that ther# were other charges pending.
