N.Z. BAND MAY BEAT ALL-COMERS.
CRACK ARTISTS ENGAGED TO PLAY IN DOMINION. Per Tress Association. WELLINGTON, May 3. Mr il. Berry, prominent bandmaster of Australia, who has recently taken up the conductorship of the Wellington Tramways Band, proposes to organise a New Zealand Brass Band fit to hold its own with the bands which come from Australia and carry off the honours at the New Zealand contests. A committee has been formed to assist in Wellington and to provide finance towards this object. Mr Berry has engaged Mr F. Morreil, euphonium player, and Mr E. Edwards, drummer, both of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders’ Band, to take up their permanent residence here and to play with the Tramways Band. Mr B. Tucker, of the Lithgow Band, champion horn player of Australia, has also been secured. Mr Berry considers that New Zealand can turn out as good a band as any and hopes to make the Tramways Band equal to any outside competitor.
