A REVERSAL OF FORM.

By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON’, June 2. At the Epsom summer meeting, the following was the result of the DERBY STAKES, of 100 sovs each, with 3000 sovs added; second horse 400 sovs, third horse 200 sovs and breeder of winner 500 sovs from the stake. For two-year-olds. One mile and a half. CORONACH, Lord Woolavingtons ch c, bv Hurry On—Wet Kiss, 9s t .' 1 LAXCEGAYE, Mr W. Singers b c, by Swvnford—Flying Spear, 9st 2 COLORADO. Lord Derby’s br c, by Phalaris —Carryon, 9st 3 X'ineteen ran. Won by five lengths, with a short head between second and third.

The result of the Derby is a reversal of the form shown in the Two Thousand Guineas a month ago, as in the first of the classic races Colorado beat Coronach by five lengths. English experts were prepared to find Colorado a brilliant non-stayer, but after his easy win in the Two Thousand Guineas these opinions were revised, as proved

by the fact that he became a hot favourite for the Derby. The Derby result, however, seems to prove that the original estimate was the correct one, as, though easily the best over a mile a.t Newmarket, Colorado had to be satisfied with third place over the tiring Derby course at Epsom. ! Coronach was one of the best two-v£ar-olds of last season, lie won his first three engagements. A Maiden Plate at. Salisbury marked his opening. Next he captured the Rous Memorial Stakes at Goodwood, with the One Thousand Guineas winner in second place. Then came the Champagne Stakes at Ashburton. This was'a good performance, Apple Sammy and Lex being the field behind him. He wound up by losing the Middle Park Plate by a neck to Lex. A few weeks ago he was second to Colorado in the Two Thousand Guineas. Lancegaye showed no form last season, but he started only once, being unplaced in the Boscawen Stakes, won by Apple Sammy. Colorado started off last season by winning a Maiden Plate at Manchester, and then he took the Coventry Stakes at Ascot. He ran twice later, but was unplaced on each occasion. Ilis three-year-old career was started auspiciously with an easy win in the Two Thousand Guineas, Coronach being second and Apple Sammy third.
