CHINAMAN FINED £3O FOR KEEPING OPIUM.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 28. A Chinaman, Wong Tack, was \-esterday fined £3O for being in possession of opium suitable for smoking. Accused, who has officiated on several occasions in court as a Chinese interpreter, said that he vacated the premises a few hours before the police raided the house, and could give no explanation as to the presence of opium in the house. Accused was allowed a fortnight in which to pay the fine.
