LEFT EMPTY-HANDED
WEEK-END BURGLARS. Their objective evidently the .safe in Ihe manager’s private office, burglars broke into the premises of Messrs Packer and Jones, timber merchants, of 1 hurchill Street, during the week-end. They were apparently His- . tu rbed in their operations, and left, empty-handed. Smashing off the lock with a jemmy, they gained entrance through a door to the main office, hut there was n > evidence this morning of anything inside having been disturbed. That numerous articles of value in tho office were not interfered with hears out the supposition that the contents of the safe alone had anv attraction for the intruders. With the exception of the charwoman who cleaned out the offices on Saturday afternoon. no authorised person had been on the premises during tho week-end until shortJv before eight o’clock this morning.
