“SOMETHING WILL BE DONE.”

NEW ART GALLERY “Something will be done in the mat ter: that is quite definite.” said the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) today, in discussing the proposal to erect a new art gallery in the Botanical Gardens on a site at the rear of the Museum. The Mayor said that no further sub acription had come to hand, but cer tain sums had been promised. The question to face was what was the best way of tackling the matter; whether the donations were to be used towards the cost of the building or for the pur -chase of pictures. The whole matter w%s to be reviewed by the Finance Committee of the. City Council this afternoon and a report would be presented to the next meeting of the council. J he methods of going about the matter were under discussion now.
