GOVERNOR-GENERAL.

LETTER OF THANKS TO MAYOR. Before Ills departure for \Y ellington. ast night, his Excellency the Gover-nor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, wrote to the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) sis follows:—• Dear Mr Mayor, I would be sorry to leave Christchurch without thanking 3'ou. and through you the citizens of Christchurch, for the very kind welcome given to her Excellency and myself. It has been the greatest disappointment to me that a visit to which I had greatly looked forward, should have been spoilt by circumstances beyond my control, and that I have had no opportunity of making acquaintance with so many whom I was anxious to meet, and with so much that would have been of interest. That must necessarily now wait until another opportunity offers, I hope at no very distant date. But .T would ask you to accept my most sincere thanks for the great kindness and consideration shown to her Excellency by one and • all. She has been most interested in all that she has seen, and has thoroughly enjoyed her visit, which in all respects has been a delightful experience. With all kind regards to Mrs Archer and yourself. Believe me, Yours very sincerelv, (Signed) CHARLES FERGUSSON.
