RUM-RUNNER’S FATE.

ATTACKED BY PIRATES? BLACKMAIL CHARGE. LONDON’, June 8. A. blackmail charge was heard today at the Guildhall, the case arising from the. adventurous nun-running, voyage of the auxiliary motor schooner Veronica, carrying 18.500 cases of whisky and 160 cases of champagne. Thomas Godmon, formerly in the mercantile marine, the Veronica's owuer, has asserted that the Veronica is now lying at Halifax, with her machinery damaged and her cargo missing, she. having been towed in a helpless condition into that port. The underwriters are disputing these facts. Godoian, upon learning that pirates had attacked the Veronica, sent his assistant.. ’William Cox, to search the coast. Later he (Godtnan) personally made an unsuccessful search, using motor boats and aeroplanes. Tb is alleged that Cox, who is now charged with jfeloniouslv demanding money, called at Godraanks London office, and threatened, unless given money, to produce the documents relating to the Veronica. The hearing was adjourned.
