GRASS FIRE ON HILLS.
A grass fire broke out on the hills above Heathcote Valley at about 12.30 to-day and soon attained considerable dimensions- A party of fire fighters went up from the Valley and after a strenuous struggle succeeded in keeping it from spreading down the valley. The fire then swept right over the hill on to the Lyttelton side, and a large party of men were engaged this afternoon in keeping it in check. It was expected that the_ fire would be extinguished before nightfall.
