GALA AT SYDENHAM FREE KINDERGARTEN.
-lu ideal weather, thfe worker* for the Sydenham Free Kindergarten held their monster gala this afternoon. The playground in Queen Street presented a very gay and festive appearance, tho whole of the grounds being artistically decorated with an abundance of bunting. Mr 11. T. Armstrong, M.P.. in making the official opening, congratulated the committee on the splendid arrangements made und wished them every success in making a substantial sum for such a- worthy cause. There was a large attendance of the public, who spent liberally at the various stalls and attractions provided. An eujoyabJe programme of music was played by the Caledonian Pipe Band. The catering was in very able hands, and ample provision was made to meet the demands of the large number present. The stallholders, etc., were: Produce—Mesdames Jlobbs, Drake, Aitken and Willoughby. Ices and fruit salad—Mesdames Taylor, Griffiths and Miss Brigbtmore. Tea—Mesdames Hester. Wilson, Johnstone, Brightvnorc, Bissot and Lcitch. Cake—Mesdames Anderson and Nelson. Sweets—Mrs Rodda, Misses E. and V. Rodda and Appleby. Plain sewing—Mrs F. A. Peppier. Bran dips—Misses Rodda and Appleby. Variety- Misses Lockwood and Jackson. Peg hoop la —Mrs Cooper. Babv show —Mr Aitken : judge, Mrs F. C. A’Court. Cooking competitions—Mrs Whitbrock judges. Mr and Mrs Keith Wilson. In addition to the stall list there were numerous sideshows, a Mysterious Mian, cake guessing, and various similar events. The chute proved very attractive for the children present. The gala, which is to be carried on during this evening will be very attractive, as the grounds will be specially illuminated.
