CHRISTMAS CHEER.
THE SALVATION ARMY’S APPEAL. AVe have received the following from Captain R. Barnes, manager of the Aten’s Industrial Home, Poulson Street, Addington:— The year 1923 is rapidly passing away, hut before it finally loaves ns we would like our friends and supporters, namely, the ladies and gentlemen and business firms of Christchurch and dis triet. to generously remember our an nual Christmas appeal. We have never needed your help more than at the present time. V ith your kindly assistance, we would like to give the usual dinner and tea on Christmas Day to all the inmates of our home, and also to raise a little financial help with which to start the New Year. Our well known work of many rears' slanding fnlly justifies our inclusion among the charitable institutions of Canterbury. Our energies are mainly directed in helping the discharged prisoners and destitute of all classes. As this year has been a very hard one. we would be veyv thankful if our friends would do their best for us. The nmn hers of men dealt with this year aro as follows : In the home at the beginning of the rear - . . 65 From gaol,. Police Court and street 833 Total . . . . * 888 Passed out to situations . .182 To acek work .... 636 Sent to friends .... 6 Sent to other institutions . k 16 Remaining in the home \ . 48 Total 888 Meals given number 61.140, and 22.791 beds have been supplied in this home during the rear. Hundreds of garments hare been distributed. We ■meet prisoners on discharge and provide food, shelter and work for the needy. Donations of money, food and clothing will be thankfully received.
