ARMISTICE DAY.

Per Press Association'. WELLINGTON, October 29. The whole Empire has united since the year 1918 in commemorating Armistice Day by a solemn silence of two minutes, beginning at the hour of eleven a.m. in each country, Dominion and dependency. His Majesty has expressed the wish that, in this present year when Armistice Day falls on a Sunday, the service of commemoration should be held in churches, and the Government of New Zealand trusts that several denominations throughout the Dominion will agree to partly devote their morning services on Sunday, November 11, to this object. If those services are commenced as is usual at 11 a.m., it would bo difficult to obsei’ve equally tlie prefcedent of silent commemoration at the same hour. For that reason, the special service at Westminster Abbey at which the- King will he present has been made by his Majesty’s desire appointed to commence at 10.45 a.m. During that service at the hour of 11 a.m., a solemn silence will he observed. The New Zealand Government trusts that the Dominion churches will agree to arrange that on Sunday, November 11, the morning services shall commence not later than 10.45, arid that in the course of those services, the several congregations may be invited to rise at 11 a.m., and a silence to be observed for two minutes.
